TRIP TO MICHIGAN VIA ROUTE 66

Well, here we are on the road again and loving every minute of it. As most of you know we are heading to Stephanie's in Michigan and driving along Route 66 to get there. So far after two days we have seen lots of interesting stuff. Right now we are in Grants, New Mexico just outside of Albuquerque (I think that's how it's spelled) for the night then on to more of the same tomorrow. Here are a few pictures of things we have seen so far. One thing we did come to realize is that a lot of the points of interest are closed for some reason. Maybe it is because it's winter and not a lot of people drive Route 66 during the winter. Anyway, plenty of room on the road for us and we are enjoying that.

Day One - California:

The beginning of Route 66 at Palisades Park in World Famous Santa Monica. Notice the new ferris wheel at the Pier and the wonderful arch that lead you to it!

I picked up some handsome looking guy just along route 66 - hey wait a minute that's my handsome husband Glen. Isn't he cute! Also a picture of California Route 66 Museum just outside of Victorville, California and the California Route 66 sign.

The Amboy Crater which as you can see is a National Natural Landmark and the Famous Amboy Shoe Tree!!! I don't know if it's famous or not, but we spotted it along the way and stopped to take a picture. These are both outside of Needles, California.

Day 2 - Arizona:

Route 66 Map we are following for Arizona. Glen looking good somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Oatman Arizona a quint little town out in the middle of nowhere and famous for their free roaming burros that like to follow you around town. Also famous for being the place our friend Mary and her husband Kevin used to live. We took this picture of the Christmas decorations just outside of Oatman. Evidently the town decorates the Sage Brush for Christmas and this particular one was decorated by the Red Hat Society. Mom and Mary this one's for you!

This is Cold Springs Cabins located between Oatman and Kingman at the bottom of the Sitgreaves Pass. It was closed just like everything else we saw.

This is the Snow Cap Drive-In in Seligman, AZ but it was closed (surprise) so we just took a picture. Man I was bummed because we were going to have chili dogs and soft serve ice cream cones. Oh well some other time.

Here we are at Jack Rabbit Trading Post on old highway 66 just outside of Joseph, Arizona. Obviously the only thing exciting about this place is the Hugh Jack Rabbit that you can take your picture with. We also met the family cat here - he was so friendly that Glen had to take him off the Jack Rabbit so we could take this picture. He still got in on it though - there he is in the lower right hand corner. Glen is hanging around the lamp post outside the Red Garter Bed & Bakery in Williams, AZ. And I'm standing in front of it. It's famous for being a former Saloon and Bordello.

And finally - here is what Todd thought about the whole thing. One picture says it all! More to follow so stay tuned and Happy Trails!!
