Riding the Rogue River

Well today we FINALLY made it back to Jerry’s Rogue Jet Boats for a thrilling ride up the Rogue River.  We did it 17 yrs ago with some good friends and always talked about doing it again.  At last we got to do it.  We also stopped at the Lucas Ranch again in Agness (not spelled wrong just the way they spell it) Oregon about 35 miles up the river for their famous family style chicken dinner meals.  The family has been on their ranch for 6 generations and still going strong.  It was so much fun to be able to relive our past experience and to have just as much fun this time as we did 17 years ago.

Enjoy the pictures and maybe one of these days you might be able to come to Gold Beach Oregon to ride the Jet Boats like we did.

Points South, Headed Home

Started yesterday in Port Angeles and drove to the Hoh Rain Forrest on the west side of Olympic National Park. Saw gobs and gobs of moss hanging off the trees, an owl and a unicorn, what a great walk! Out of Washington, see ya! Then on to Astoria Oregon. We wanted to stay at Lewis and Clark State park but couldn’t get 2 nights so on to a RV park.

Today we wondered about town, talk about Victorians, this place has got a ton of houses on the National Register. Went to see the Astoria Tower and the Goonies house. Went through the Flavel Museum, very cool. Had some of the best fish n chips I’ve had since Kauai. On down the coast tomorrow to do a tour of at Tillamook Cheese and points south.

First post by the Gnomie, don’t blame Bonnie!

Family

Hi there everyone – well I know its been a while, but I thought I would take a break from blogging for a bit to enjoy the company of our lovely family in the Pacific Northwest (Vancouver, Portland).  We spent a couple of days with Glen’s sister Nancy and our new Brother In-law Wayde in Vancouver and got to see all three of Nan’s daughters Nannette, Novena & Brenda and their families.  It was so much fun!  We had only seen pictures of our Great Nieces Nakesha, Sarah, and Miah, who are the children of Novena and Missy and the one and only Nephew Josh who are the children of Nannette and Randy.  Nannette and Randy also have another two daughters Nina and ?? (sorry) who weren’t able to make it.  So to see the majority of our family was a real treat.  Brian, Brenda’s husband was also there and their children are grown and out on their own now.  We were so please that they all came to see us.

Thanks to Nancy and Wayde for putting it all together.  Glen also got to reconnect with someone I had never met and that he hadn’t seen in a very, very long time.  That reunion went very well.

Here are some pictures of our family.

Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum

Hi there – after our travel day yesterday we set out this morning to visit the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum.  It’s located in McMinnville, Oregon and is home to the Spruce Goose built by Howard Hughes in 1947.  The Spruce Goose was relocated to McMinnville in 1990 from Long Beach California were it was housed for many years.  It was a very interesting museum and had lots of old planes and space capsules etc.  I hope you enjoy the album.  Tomorrow we leave for Vancouver Washington for a few days.

Happy Trails and Cheers!

Farewell to Crater Lake Natl. Park

Well as we bid farewell to Crater Lake National Park we take away lots of beautiful memories and pictures too!

Today we finally made it to Crater Lake and actually saw the Lake in the Crater – it was spectacular.  We weren’t able to go all the way around the rim of the crater because there was still to much snow and the road was closed, but we don’t feel cheated at all.  The extra couple of days waiting for clear weather was worth it.  We went in the West Entrance and exited the North Entrance which took us through a Pumice Desert

and dumped us right out by Diamond Lake. P6110034

Beautiful, beautiful.  We also figured out how to get to National Creek Falls today.  A couple of days ago we took a wrong turn and ended up missing it.

So to say we had a fabulous time is an understatement.  We hiked our fannies off (I wish), up and down trails, up and down stairs (which BTW are killer on the knees and calves) and drove all over the place in search of wildflowers and covered bridges.  I hope you have enjoyed the journey with us and stay tuned for more.  Tomorrow we are off to see the Spruce Goose in McMinnville, Oregon.

Covered Bridges and Water Falls

Today was a long and very interesting day.  We spent most of the day visiting water falls and seeking out covered bridges.  Talk about being off the beaten path, we started hearing banjos on some of the roads we were taking (if you know what I mean).  Anyway, we made it back safe and sound with lots of pictures and good memories.  I am putting the pictures in an album now that I am using this new windows live writer I hope it works.  Here are a few of the most noteworthy ones.

Tomorrow we are off again to try and conquer Crater Lake.  We would like to say we actually saw it versus just went there because yesterday was a bust!  It was cold, snowing and visibility was ZERO!

Happy Trails Everyone.

Falls & Boulders

We got a late start today, because Glen is still not quite 100% so we haven't made it to Crater Lake yet. We did however take in the sights around this area and visited two falls and one giant boulder site. The trail was not too bad and we were able to do it along with Todd, who sometimes blazed the trail for us and other times walked by our side. Here are some pics.

Are we there yet??
