U.P. ADVENTURE

Well here we go again!  On the road to the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan to see what we can see.  Started out the first day and stayed at Fishermen's Island State Park which is in the upper western park of Michigan but not in the UP.  Nice park but no utilities - not my kind of camping LOL.  Situated on Lake Michigan - never seen it before so I suppose that was nice.

Second day we headed out to Traverse City and did the tourist stuff which is what I like.  Did a little shopping then headed back to camp.

Third day was a travel day to Van Riper State Park in the UP.  Crossed over Mackinaw Bridge and headed North West to the park.  Nice park on Lake Mighigamme and they had electricity which was good because it was hot and we needed the AC.

Fourth Day went in search of waterfalls.  Saw one waterfall Warner Creek Waterfall and decided not to pursue the search for anymore.  Not very impressive.  I guess we are spoiled because we have seen such beautiful falls in Yosemite and other westcoast parks that its hard to compare.  So we went in search of Lighthouses.  Saw one at Presque Isle Park very small and again not very impressive.  But its situated on Lake Superior which is cool because we've never been there so we dipped our tootsies in the lake.

Glen and I have decided that maybe because we are so far North things just aren't that big :-) Just like they say in Texas that everythings "bigger" there, we say everythings "smaller" in the UP.

Fifth day - Boring!! Just went in to Isheming a town a few miles from camp and walked main street, all of two blocks long and checked out their rummage sale - woo hoo big deal LOL.

Sixth day - travel day to Mackinaw City to stay two nights and go to Mackinac Island tomorrow.  Nice campground, Mill Creek Campground on the shores of Lake Huron and in sight of Mackinac Island and the Mackinaw Bridge.  Can't wait for tomorrow to go to the Island it will be fun I'm sure.

Let the adventure continue!

  1. Looks like you'll be able to be a tour guide of your new state....when you come back to visit Calif it won't feel like home anymore. Even though I only moved an hour and a half away when I go back it just doesn't feel like home anymore

  2. Does Glen fish?

I used to love camping, but these days I think the only way I'd really enjoy it would be with a small group of friends. And in an RV of course. I couldn't sleep on the ground like I used to!
